Week 13 WCIYP MKTG 347

How to Start Your Own Business

This is the chapter I have been waiting for in this book.  Chapter 12 of WCIYP talks all about starting your own business.  I known that starting my own business is my dream.  Now,  I finally was able to dive deeper into what it takes to make my dreams a reality.

The chapter begins with case studies on the statement "Is it as difficult as we are so often told."  This is one thing I hear a lot.  With this, I believe that if you want to be successful with business you need to put in to work.  Nothing is handed to you, and only you can make yourself successful.

Moving on, one problem many young Entrepreneurs struggle with is starting the process of making a business.  This is so common because many people don't like change in their lives, and lots of change is required when starting something new.

The book breaks this down into three sections.

First, write down what is on your mind and keep track of possible ideas.  I do this with my notebook on my IPhone, that way I always have it on me.

Next, read up on your ideas.  Find out what the industry you would be getting into and find the problem you are working to solve.

Finally, explore what is out there.  Gaining background information on the ideas you have will allow you to know what is already on the market and how your product/service can be better.

Week 13- WCIYP MKTG 347

Choosing a career can be very difficult.  In chapter 11 of WCIYP, there are helpful tips on how to choose the career meant for you.

First, the best way to find out what you want to do is by using the internet to your advantage.  I have been recently talking about the advantages of getting into AI, at the same time, using the internet for personal use can always be helpful.

Now, there are other exercises that can be completed that can help you better understand yourself.  With the information gained, you can do your own research on potential jobs that will interest you with the internet.

After you understand yourself and the jobs on the market, the decision becomes yours.  Strive to work in a job that you will be truly happy with because in the end you will better off.

Week 12- AI Impact MKTG 347

Today we look at an Article by Todd Kelsey titled Artificial Intelligence Impact on Business Jobs.  In the article, Professor Kelsey describes the way that he believes the business job market will be changed with the spread of AI.

One aspect that was talked about was Entrepreneurship.  This was one section that I broke down very specifically because it is the route I plan to take with my life goals.  I have had an entrepreneurial mindset for awhile now, and it was good reinsurance to hear that my major was a good choice.

The article states " As a society, we should do everything we possibly can to empower every young person to learn about entrepreneurship, including opportunities to take classes, participate in workshops and get support from business mentors."

With this is mind, I believe that I should be spreading the entrepreneurial dream with others to influence them in joining.  This can not only help me directly, and at the same time improve the overall economy.

I can't wait to continue my studies to work to better the economy.  All while keeping artificial intelligence in mind.

Week 12- Surfing the Tsunami Intro MKTG347

Reading the introduction to this book, I've already become more interested in getting involved with AI.  Currently studying Entrepreneurship in school, I believe that one area that I need to dive deeper into is technology and its rise.

Throughout this semester,  I have taken a break from using most technology.  The main reason for this is because I felt that I was wasting to much time.  Using social media for hours, while at the same time sitting in front of a gaming console with a movie playing in the background.  It was taking over my life and for the wrong reasons.

The realization that AI is not going to slow down is very important.  I want to gain more knowledge on the industry and use it for my future Entrepreneurship goal.  Although this still will not be my main focus, I plan to find others interest and make new connections.  With this, I will have others that know the information to help me, while I help with the business behind it.

One way I plan to learn more about the subject is with reading Todd Kelsey's Surfing the Tsunami, when the completed book is released,  The introduction can be found at http://www.tsunami.ai/introduction.

Week 11- Entrepreneurship 2

With the semester coming to an end, all of the work we put in came down to the final project.  The final pitch for Entrepreneurship 301 was very stressful with compacting a semester of research and information into a eight minute presentation.

Creating the presentation was a long process, but one thing that helped a lot was being able to use google drive.  With this feature, the group was able to share information and work on assignments without always having to meet.   With drive, we had a folder that included all of our work and with that we created a presentation with google slides.

Using most of the work that we already completed through the semester and transforming them into slides was difficult because we all had so much information to pack into the few slides.

We ended up braking the presentation into four sections, one for each team member.  Yaju was head of Research and Development and presented the slides on the problem that we were working to solve and why it needs to be addressed.  I presented that prototype that we created with all of the future features that a working prototype would come with and the estimated prices for the working prototype.  Frank was in charge of the marketing strategy and the competitive landscape.  This was a strong part of our presentation because Frank is a Marketing Major.  Finally, Ken closed up the presentation with our products future innovations and the sales pitch on why to invest.

Overall, our group made a solid presentation on google slides, but we all felt that it did not have enough eye appeal.  The night before the presentation, we ended up working late in order to change the presentation into a Prezi.  This ended up adding value to our presentation because it created a story behind it.  The slides work up a mountain, with the last slide being at the top with our closing pitch.  We felt that little details like that add value and helped our presentation in the end.

All in All, the class was very helpful to me in knowing what to do next with my business ideas.   The class, along with Professor Houlihan, gave me the confirmation on what I want to do for the rest of my life.  I am very excited to begin my journey as an entrepreneur.
